WE SHOOK UP CONGRESSES

We worked intensively to influence the creation of laws and public policies that guarantee reproductive rights. In collaboration with local organizations, we managed to get the Aguascalientes Congress to decriminalize abortion during the first 12 weeks of gestation, and also provided technical assistance to lawmakers on the elaboration of multiple initiatives.

The Aguascalientes Congress approved a reform to the Penal Code to allow voluntary abortion during the first 12 weeks of gestation in compliance with the legal stay won by GIRE, together with the non-profit organizations Morras Help Morras (Women Help Women, in English), TERFU, CECADEC (Community Development Training Center) and Cultivando Género (Cultivating Gender).

Based on a case accompanied by GIRE, the Chiapas Congress eliminated the 90-day limit to abortion access due to rape from the Penal Code.

We provided technical assistance and closely monitored two reform initiatives to the General Health Law regarding conscientious objection.

We accompanied the Federal Penal Code reform process regarding abortion, which is currently in committees.

We provided technical support to lawmakers and activists in Michoacán, Puebla, and San Luis Potosí to advance the abortion decriminalization process.
